Bloody hell! It’s 2025. That’s a quarter of the century nearly gone. Oh wow. I might start freaking out. As the fierce rush of events threatens to send us all running for the nearest quiet cave where we can just weave baskets and tend our pet marmots, what can we hold onto to stay grounded and keep our shit at least halfway together?
That’s right – it’s content. At this stage, content really is something no business can afford to ignore. Not us, for obvious reasons; not you – and not your web design clients. And if you’re working with them to build their website, design their pages, or fine-tune their SEO strategy, chances are they’re going to want content, too.
Can they do it themselves? Occasionally!
Can you do it for them? Maybe. Maybe not.
Do you WANT to do it for them? You don’t, do you?
Content is needy. It wants your time. It wants your effort. It spams your brain with relentless demands. It can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead. Oh hang on – that’s a T-800. But the point stands, I think?
You’ve got your own life (or in this case, web design business) to handle. You need to focus on your core competencies; the stuff you love.
At the same time, you don’t want to say ‘no’ to your clients, right? Because when that happens, they go somewhere else. And what if that ‘somewhere else’ doesn’t just do content, but all the other things they were already getting from you? Just like that, you’ve lost a client. All because of time-consuming content.
But hold up! You can avoid all this with a little something called white label copywriting.
The white label concept
The term “white label” originally comes from products and services that are produced by one company but rebranded by another. It’s like buying a generic T-shirt from a factory and slapping your logo on it. Boom! You’re a fashion mogul. Common white label products? Think clothing, accessories, mugs, water bottles, software, and now… yes! Content. So…
What is white label copywriting?
White label copywriting is a service where a content agency or freelance writer creates written content that another company delivers to their clients under their own brand, as if it were produced in-house.
This works particularly well for web designers, as their clients need content that works with their newly designed website. Clients often don’t make the distinction between a website’s design and a website’s content, so it makes sense to offer it as one service.
At WordHound, we write the content your clients need, you sprinkle on your design magic, and deliver it to your clients as if it came straight from your own in-house team.
And why should you care about white label content? Well, let’s talk benefits:
1. Saves time
Who has time to write blog posts, research articles, or craft web copy? You don’t, because you’re busy being awesome at other things. Let someone else handle the writing.
2. Saves money
Instead of hiring a full-time writer or even a team of them, you can outsource the work to experts without the commitment. Plus, it costs you nothing to implement. That’s right – zero pence.
3. Saves effort
You won’t need to sit at home reading books about the many unfathomable things that your web design clients do for a living. You get access to writers who know their stuff (and how to do research efficiently), whether it’s tech, healthcare, cheese, commercial vehicle finance, or marmot husbandry.
White label content example
But how does it work in practice? We’ll dive into a straightforward example:
Let’s say you’re a web design and development company. You’re crushing the design game, but when it comes to content, things get… annoying. Waiting for clients to send over copy is frustrating, it’s unpredictable, and worst of all, it delays the entire project.
Enter white label content. You provide your clients with a branded brief to fill in, the content agency whips up the words, and voilà! All of a sudden, content is ready faster than ever, projects are getting wrapped up sooner, and you’re getting paid quicker. Nice!
How it works
Every agency has their own way of doing things when it comes to white label copywriting, so we can’t speak for the rest of the industry. But here’s how it works at WordHound:
How do I request content?
You’ll have a dedicated content manager (say ‘hi’ to Angela!). You can give Angela a fancy email address with your company domain, or you can introduce WordHound as your trusted content partner. Either way, we’re happy to go with whatever works best for you and your clients. We’ve found that clients don’t usually mind where the content comes from as long as it’s good!
Whenever you have a new project, drop Angela a line or give her a call, and the well-oiled machine will clank into life. Our clients love having Angela as part of the team. She’s like that colleague who brings cake – except instead of cake, it’s words! And bants. And dog pics. And – sometimes – actual cake!
How do I quote for content?
You’ll have an easy-to-follow pricing structure from us, so you’ll always know what we’re going to charge ahead of time. We recommend you include that cost as part of your design project, but it’s up to you.
How do you know what to write?
We’ll gather up all the information we need for the content aspect of your project, looking after your client as if they were our own. Once they’ve filled in a brief and agreed on the site map with you, we’ll book a call to talk through the project. During the call we’ll make note of the vocabulary the client uses, so it sounds like it was written by them (but better).
How do I receive the content?
The content is delivered via Google Drive to you and your client so that everyone has access. If anything needs to be tweaked, that’s all included in the price. Just highlight the section and leave a comment. Once it’s approved, it’s over to you to add it to your design, and if it needs any final design-related editing, that’s included too.
What about ongoing blogs?
We love those. Our aim is always to make the copywriting process so smooth during your client’s first time working with us that they say, “Wow! I wish we could do that every month!”. No one needs a new website every month, but they do need to make sure the old one isn’t going stale, and getting forgotten about at the back of the internet.
If you’re selling your client a website maintenance plan, it’s simple to offer regular articles along with it. We can work within your client’s budget, and you can charge for your time when it comes to uploading the articles that we provide, formatting them, and generally making them lovely.
Content writing for agencies
Let’s talk about finding the right white label copywriting partner for your agency. Because, honestly, this is like dating. You want someone who gets you, shares your values, smells at least ‘fine’, and has similar goals. Choosing the right white label copywriting partner can be a game-changer for your agency. You get to add a shiny new service to your offerings without having to do all the heavy lifting. Your clients will be impressed by the seamless integration, and you can sit back and watch your business grow.
If you’re an agency that’s not offering content, you’re leaving money on the table. Don’t be that agency. Get in touch with us, and let’s get started.
